Boo and the Big Storm
Testimonials
Jackie French
much loved, multi-award winning author
This is a superb story of human and animal interaction. Your deep love and knowledge of owls and how humans, especially children, can rescue and assist them is heartening. The illustrations are simple and have a gorgeous shining real quality that accompanies the drama and its resolution. And how wonderful that this resolution is possible, even if not always applied.
It will certainly inspire children to understand and treasure the wildlife around them. Perhaps even inspire a few into a job with and a love for our parks and wildlife service.
The notes at the back of the book will be fascinating for teachers, parents and children.

Boo and the Big Storm will have young children enchanted by Wendy Lawrence’s simple, heart-warming tale about a curious young Boobook Owl who is rescued by a kindly farmer after falling out of its nestling hollow. The adult reading the story will fall for wide-eyed Boo too, as she is possibly the cutest little critter ever to grace a storybook, thanks to the gorgeous artwork of Glen Vause. Every element of this book hits the spot, making the reading of it a delight for both child and parent.

Writing a story to engage and educate the fast young minds of today is no easy feat, but Australian Wendy Lawrence’s debut picture book does just that. When a storm causes little owlet, Boo, to fall from her tree, she fears she will never get home to her family. Then she meets Farmer Goodman. Boo is a delightful character and her story gently and sensitively reminds us of the need to understand and care for our wildlife. Beautifully illustrated, this is the perfect book for creature-loving children.
Kids Book Review
Boo and the Big Storm is a delightful story of lost and found. Lovely little owlet Boo is swept away from her siblings by a strong wind.
